ATLANTA – The 24th-ranked Georgia Tech softball team will play in the Hillenbrand Invitational softball tournament for a round robin tournament in Tucson, Ariz., on March 5-7. The Yellow Jackets (16-4) will face UTEP (3-7) in its first game at 3 p.m. ET at Hillenbrand Stadium on Friday, March 5. The rest of the schedule is TBA due to excessive rain in the Tucson area.
UTEP is led by Gracie Borjas at the plate. Borjas is hitting .455 with three doubles. On the mound, Renee DiPuccio leads the Miners with a record of 3-3.
North Texas enters the weekend with a record of 6-22. The Mean Green softball team has played a tough schedule with losses to No. 4 Oklahoma (7-2, 5-4), No. 9 Alabama (8-0), No. 18 Texas A&M (6-1), now ranked No. 18 Pacific (10-2) and No. 21 Oklahoma State (8-2). North Texas defeated now unraked Oklahoma State, 4-2, in its last ballgame.
Tournament host Arizona enters the weekend with an overall record of 21-0. The second-ranked Wildcats are hitting .367 as a team and are led by Alicia Hollowell in the circle. Hollowell is 14-0, with a 0.71 ERA and has 179 strikeouts in 88.1 innings pitched.
Northern Iowa stands at 3-6 heading into the tournament. UNI is hitting .143 as a team and has a staff ERA of 1.74. Erin Strellner leads the Panther bats with a .250 average, including four doubles, one home run and three RBIs.
Indiana currently has a record of 5-9. The Hoosiers dropped an extra inning game to No. 18 Nebraska, 5-4, in the Cornhuskers’ tournament. Karly McCormack leads the Hoosier bats with a .421 batting average, with two home runs and leads the team with eight runs batted in. Mariangee Bogado leads IU in the circle with a 4-2 record and a 0.98 ERA.
