No. 23 Tech Women's Tennis Falls to No. 5 Duke, 5-2

ATLANTA — Georgia Tech women’s tennis seniors Jaime Wong and Mysti Morris closed out their home careers with singles wins, but it wasn’t enough as the Yellow Jackets fell to fifth-ranked Duke by a 5-2 score at the Bill Moore Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.

The Jackets (13-5, 5-3 ACC) fell behind the Blue Devils (23-2, 8-0 ACC) early on, as Duke won a pair of doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead in the team match. The Devils’ sixth-ranked team of Amanda Johnson and Julie DeRoo defeated Tech’s team of Mysti Morris and Lyndsay Shosho at No. 2 doubles by an 8-5 score give Duke the doubles point. The Yellow Jackets did get a win at No. 1 doubles, as the team of Kelly Anderson and Jaime Wong defeated the Blue Devils’ 10th-ranked team of Kelly McCain and Hillary Adams by an 8-4 score.

In singles play, Duke put the match out of reach by winning the first three singles matches of the day at Nos. 1, 5 and 2. A win by the Blue Devils’ Amanda Johnson at No. 2 singles over Tech’s Kelly Anderson by scores of 7-5, 6-0 clinched the overall match for Duke.

Morris was the first singles winner of the day for the Jackets, as she downed Julie DeRoo at No. 4 singles in straight sets. She won the first set by a 6-4 score and then cruised to a 6-2 victory in the second to claim the match. Wong was equally solid in earning her win at No. 2 singles over 49th-ranked Saras Arasu. After winning the first set by a 6-4 score, Wong dominated the second set, winning by a 6-1 count to claim the match.

Georgia Tech will be back in action on April 18-20, when it travels to compete in the ACC Championship s at the Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C. Seeds and pairings for the tournament will be announced on Monday.
