>> Final exams are complete and No. 23 Georgia Tech takes a break from ACC play this weekend for a non-conference test versus postseason-regular Coastal Carolina at Russ Chandler Stadium.
>> The three-game series is underway with a doubleheader Friday at 2 p.m. All three games can be seen live on ESPN3 with Richard Musterer and Roddy Jones. Nolan Alexander and Wade Rogers have the call on WREK.
>> The Jackets are 14-4 all-time versus the Chanticleers, but the teams have not met since Tech took two of three in Atlanta in 2008. Three of the 18 all-time meetings have come in NCAA Regional play, and the Tech is 2-1 in those games.
>> Both teams enter the series off a “bye week,” as the Jackets had the week off for final exams, and the Chanticleers’ Tuesday game versus Charlotte was washed out.
>> Tech is 16-4 in non-conference games this season, and is 20-7 overall at Russ Chandler Stadium.
>> Junior C/RHP Zane Evans brings a six-game hitting streak in the weekend, and is fresh off a 6-for-6, two-homer, four-RBI performance last Saturday at Clemson. Evans is hitting .362 and leads the ACC in home runs (13) and slugging percentage (.669).
>> Tech has four players among the ACC’s top 10 in hitting, led by senior CF Brandon Thomas at .376 (fourth). Zane Evans (13) and Daniel Palka (12) lead the league in homers, while Evans is third in RBI (51) and first in slugging (.669). Kyle Wren is second in the ACC with 23 stolen bases and paces the league with a .400 average in conference play.
