ATLANTA – The No. 23/23 Georgia Tech women’s basketball team (16-3, 3-2 ACC) will open its three-game homestand against No. 10/10 Duke (14-4, 3-1) Thursday, Jan. 24 at Alexander Memorial Coliseum. Tip-off for the first game between two nationally ranked women’s teams on the AMC floor since Jan. 24, 1993 is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Fans who can not make it to the AMC can listen to the game on WREK radio (91.1 FM/www.wrek.org), Georgia Tech women’s basketball’s flagship station. Fans also have the opportunity to watch the game live on ACC Select.
“Duke is a team with a lot of tradition and pride,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “They present several match-up problems for us but our kids are fearless and relentless. We are looking forward to the opportunity to host a top 10 team at home.”
The Yellow Jackets, ranked for the first time since Jan. 19, 1993 (exactly 14 years to the week), will try and snap a 27-game losing streak to the Blue Devils. Duke holds a 49-7 advantage against the Jackets in the all-time series, but five of Tech’s seven victories have come at home.
The AMC has served as a sixth-man for the Jackets, who are 10-0 at home this season and have won 18-straight games on its own floor. Tech extended the win streak on Jan. 13 against Miami, getting a three-pointer by Alex Montgomery at the buzzer for the victory.
Tech is coming off a double-overtime, 99-95, loss to No. 4 Maryland in College Park on Sunday. Janie Mitchell, Iasia Hemingway and Montgomery each scored over 20 points, but it was not enough to take down the Terps.
The Jackets will then enjoy a week off before hosting Clemson at Alexander Memorial Coliseum Thurs., Jan. 31 at 7 p.m.
