No. 22/25 Softball Set To Play At Kennesaw State Wednesday At 4:00

ATLANTA – The No. 22/25 Georgia Tech Softball team (7-3) will play its first mid-week game of the season when it travels up I-75 to face Kennesaw State (6-3) on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Listen to all of the action from Bailey Park on RamblinWreck.com beginning at 3:55 p.m.

This will be the only game this week for the Yellow Jackets before a busy one next week. Tech will play at Georgia State next Tuesday, host Niagara in the 2011 home opener on Wednesday and then host the Buzz Classic over the weekend at the Twin Creeks Complex in Woodstock.

Georgia Tech is coming off a 2-3 weekend at the Blue and Gold Felsberg Memorial Tournament in Miami. The Yellow Jackets lost two games in their opponent’s final at bat.

The Yellow Jackets come into the Kennesaw game hitting .313 as a team. Sophomore Hope Rush leads the way with a .421 average and has a home run and six RBI. Senior Christy Jones is batting .414 and freshman Alysha Rudnik checks in with a .387 average, two home runs and six RBI. Senior Kristine Priebe and junior Kelsi Weseman lead the team with three home runs apiece and have combined to drive in 17 runs while both hitting over .300.

The pitching staff has a 2.03 ERA and .210 opponent’s batting average, but have almost as many walks (46) as hits allowed 52). Senior Kristen Adkins is 3-1 with a 1.44 ERA and has 28 strikeouts and just 10 walks in 24.1 innings. Rush is 3-2 with a 1.77 ERA and has 23 walks to just 20 strikeouts in 31.2 innings.

The Yellow Jackets are 8-4 all-time against the Owls and all eight wins have come under head coach Sharon Perkins. Tech won both games last year, 8-3 on Feb. 24 at Mewborn Field and 7-3 on April 13 in Kennesaw. Hope Rush hit three home runs, including a grand slam over the Bailey Park scoreboard, in the two games.
