THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis returns to The Flats this weekend for the regular season finale with ACC opponents North Carolina and North Carolina State on Friday, April 21 and Sunday, April 23. Friday’s match with the Tar Heels is slated for 5 p.m. and Sunday’s showdown with the Wolfpack will start at 12 p.m.
Setting the Scene: The Yellow Jackets (15-5, 7-3 ACC) look to rebound from last weekend’s road losses at the hands of No. 3 Virginia and Virginia Tech. The Jackets are vying for a three or four seed in the ACC tournament, currently tied for third with the Tar Heels. Sunday’s match is senior day on The Flats and seniors Carlos Benito and Cole Fiegel will be honored with a prematch ceremony at 11:45 a.m.
Due to the track meet and football spring game, parking for Friday’s match will be across 10th street in the Family Housing deck free of charge. Parking for Sunday’s match will be in the McCamish lot and on Fowler Street.
Singles Update: Junior Daniel Yun went 2-0 on the weekend for the Jackets, playing at the five and six positions. Christopher Eubanks remained in the top 10 of the ITA singles rankings despite suffering his first ACC loss against Virginia.
Doubles Update: The Jackets dropped the doubles point in both matches last weekend. Benito and Eubanks entered the doubles rankings in the latest release at No. 69.
Head coach Kenny Thorne says: “We end our regular season with two tough teams. It will be the last regular season matches for our seniors Cole Fiegel and Carlos Benito. They have won some big matches for us over the past four years and it would be nice to send them into the postseason with a couple of good wins. Both matches are good opportunities for us to head into the ACC tournament playing well. We’d love to have a lot of fans out to support our seniors this weekend.”
