No. 20 Georgia Tech Heads to Georgia State

April 24, 2007

ATLANTA – The 20th-ranked Georgia Tech softball team (44-13) will put its season-high 10-game winning streak on the line against in-state foe Georgia State (28-24) this Wednesday in a non-conference doubleheader at Bob Heck Field in Panthersville, Ga. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets rank second in the nation with 76 home runs and set a new Atlantic Coast Conference record, edging last season’s total of 75 hit by Tech. The Jackets are No. 15 in the latest RPI rankings and stand fourth in the nation in slugging percentage (.533), seventh in scoring (6.63) and eighth in batting average (.324).

Tech leads the all-time series with the Panthers, 31-19, and has won 11 consecutive games in the rivalry. Both games can be followed on www.ramblinwreck.com.

The Jackets continue to be the only team in the nation that has five players with 45 RBIs or more. Tech’s Savannah Brown (63), Brittany Barnes (61), Caitlin Lever (53), Whitney Haller (49) and Jennifer Yee (46) are rewriting the record books and show why the Jackets lead the ACC in all offensive categories, except triples.

Junior right-handed pitcher Whitney Humphreys continues to lead the Jackets with a career-high 19 victories in the circle, 26th-best in the nation. She has won six straight decisions for the Rambling Wreck.

The Jackets will wrap-up ACC play this Friday and Saturday, April 27-28, in Charlottesville, Va. Tech and Virginia will play two games on Friday, starting at 3 p.m., and a single game on Saturday at 1 p.m. All three games can be followed via live stats.
