No. 18 Georgia Tech Hosts Georgia Southern

April 26, 2005

ATLANTA – The 18th-ranked Georgia Tech softball team (43-10) will host in-state foe Georgia Southern (22-28) on Wednesday for a single non-conference game at Glenn Field. Game time is slated for 4 p.m. All softball games can be followed on www.ramblinwreck.com.

The Yellow Jackets continue to lead the Atlantic Coast Conference standings at 10-3. Tech needs to win just one of three games from Maryland this Friday and Saturday, April 29-30, in College Park, to win their first regular season ACC crown. The Jackets have not lost an ACC series this season.

Tech defeated No. 12 Georgia, 4-3, last Tuesday and swept the season series with Georgia State (2-0) with a 7-0 win last Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets defeated Georgia Southern, 6-1, on Feb. 9, and defeated Mercer, 8-0 in six innings on March 5, to boast a perfect 6-0 record against in-state competition.

The Jackets had their eight-game winning-streak snapped by Virginia Tech last weekend on a come-from-behind win by the Hokies on Saturday. Tech is 9-1 in its last 10 ballgames and is 11-1 in the month of April.

Sophomore Sarah Wood has won 11 of her last 12 starts in the circle for the Yellow Jackets and is 14-2 on the season. Senior Jessica Sallinger leads the ACC with 22 wins.

At the plate, sophomore Daisy Paez caught fire last weekend against the Hokies, finishing 3-for-4, with two home runs [on consecutive at bats, tying a school record], five runs batted in and drew three walks in the doubleheader. In just 21 at bats on the season, Paez has 10 hits, two doubles, four home runs and 13 RBIs for a 1.143 slugging percentage.
