ATLANTA – Winners of a school record 16 games in a row, the 17th-ranked Georgia Tech softball team (50-13, 14-6 ACC) travels to Tallahassee, Fla., for the 2007 Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Championship, hosted by Florida State, May 10-13. The Yellow Jackets will be the No. 3 seed in the tournament and will face No. 6 seed Maryland (32-24, 8-12 ACC) in the first game on Thursday, starting at 10 a.m.

The Jackets swept the Terrapins during the regular season, 7-3 and 7-2, in College Park, Md. Tech also defeated NC State, 2-of-3 games in Atlanta this season, and swept Boston College (4-3, 6-3, 12-0) in Boston, Mass., this year. One of those schools will be the Jackets’ next round opponent, either in the winner’s bracket or loser’s bracket.
ACC regular season champion Virginia Tech (15-5 ACC) will be the top seed and will take on No. 8 seed Virginia (1-20). The winner of Hokies and Cavaliers will face the winner of No. 4 seed Florida State (13-7 ACC) and No. 5 seed North Carolina (11-9 ACC).
The winner of the Jackes and Terps, will face the winner of No. 2 seed NC State (15-6 ACC) and No. 7 seed Boston College (4-16 ACC).
The championship will be a double-elimination format, until the championship game on Sunday, which will be winner take all. That game will be televised on FSN South, at Noon.
The Jackets are in search of their third ACC title in six years. Tech is the only other team in league history, besides Florida State, that has captured multiple championships.
The ACC Tournament has been won by three different teams over the last three seasons. The Seminoles captured the tourney in 2004, Georgia Tech won the 2005 ACC title, and NC State in 2006.
