No. 15 Jackets Top Pitt on the Road, 63-52

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Behind three players in double-figure scoring numbers, No. 15/16 Georgia Tech grabbed a 63-52 victory at Pitt Tuesday evening.

The Yellow Jackets (12-3, 3-1 ACC) raced out of the gate in the first quarter, shooting 50.0 percent and hitting five three-pointers to gain a quick double-digit lead after the opening 10 minutes, 20-6. But the Panthers (9-6, 0-4 ACC) capitalized in the second quarter and closed the frame with an 11-5 run after the media timeout to cut the score to 35-21 at halftime. Lorela Cubaj and Lotta-Maj Lahtinen paced the Jackets with 10 points apiece in the first half, followed by Digna Strautmane with nine points off a 3-for-4 effort from three-point range.

Tech grabbed its largest lead of the game with a dominating third quarter, outscoring the Panthers, 21-7, in the stanza. With time winding down, Eylia Love connected on a pair of free throws to put the Jackets up, 55-26. Pitt won the fourth quarter to cut away at its score.

For the game, Lahtinen led all scorers with 17 on the night, connecting on 6-of-11 from the field and hit four three-pointers. Strautmane added 16 points to the scoreboard, followed by Cubaj with 12. Tech finished at an 85.7 percent clip at the free throw line (12-for-14) and hit nine three-pointers in the outing.

Pitt was led in scoring by Dayshanette Harris with 14 points and Destiny Strother with 11. The Panthers won the battle on the glass, 35-30.

Georgia Tech continues this stretch welcoming Florida State to McCamish Pavilion on Thursday. Tip is slated for 8 p.m. on the ACC Network.
