ATLANTA — The 14th-ranked Georgia Tech men’s tennis team will put its three-match unbeaten streak on the line this weekend when it hosts both 11th-ranked Duke and Wake Forest in key ACC match-ups at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. The Yellow Jackets (11-3, 3-1 ACC) will square off with the Blue Devils (10-5, 2-0 ACC) on Saturday at 1 p.m. and will then take on the Demon Deacons (8-5, 1-3 ACC) on Sunday at noon.
Tech’s latest ranking in the ITA Poll of 14th is the highest for the program since reaching the No. 11 spot during the 1988 campaign. In their last three outings, the Jackets have defeated a pair of top-40 opponents in 21st-ranked Indiana (5-2) on March 21 and 39th-ranked North Carolina (4-3) on March 23.
In its current run of success, Tech has got the jump on its opponents by turning in solid performances in doubles action. The Yellow Jackets have won the doubles point in each of the past nine matches and have been victorious as a team in eight of those outings. The doubles play has been led by the tandem of senior Roger Anderson and junior Scott Schnugg, who have become mainstays at the No. 1 spot in Tech’s doubles lineup. The duo holds a perfect 7-0 record in dual matches and is currently the 19th-ranked doubles tandem in the nation, after not being ranked previously in the spring.
Anderson (No. 26) and Schnugg (No. 79) are also the Jackets’ only ranked singles players, with Anderson moving up this week after his three-set win over North Carolina’s 29th-ranked Trystan Meniane in clinching the team win for Tech on Sunday. Schnugg is second on the team with an 11-3 dual-match singles record and is the team leader with 22 overall singles victories on the year.
Junior West Nott has also been a steady performer for the Jackets in the middle of the lineup this season, posting a team-best 12-2 record in dual matches this spring, including an 8-1 record at the No. 5 spot in the singles lineup.
