ATLANTA – Redshirt junior Jen Yee was 4-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI as the No. 14 Georgia Tech Softball Team (46-13) beat Boston University (43-18), 7-2, in the NCAA Softball Atlanta Regional final Sunday night at Mewborn Field. The Yellow Jackets, winners of 11 straight games and 18 of 20, advance out of regional play for the first time in school history.

Tech will host No. 3 Washington in a Super Regional next weekend at Mewborn Field. The winner of the best-of-three-game series will move onto the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla., later this month. Check back to Monday morning to see when the Jackets will play. Every Super Regional game will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks.

Senior Blair Shimandle and sophomore Christy Jones each added two hits for the Jackets, while freshman Jessica Sinclair hit a two-run home run. Freshman Jessica Coan (8-3) picked up the win in relief as she allowed just one bloop single in 3.1 innings of relief work. Coan struck out six batters and did not walk anyone.

First pitch was thrown at exactly 7 p.m., six hours after it was scheduled. Georgia Tech had a rain delay in each game of the Atlanta Regional for a total time of 13 hours and 22 minutes. BU had to sit around after beating Auburn in an elimination game this morning.

The Yellow Jackets got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second inning. Sophomore Kristen Adkins scored from first base with two outs when sophomore Jessica Weaver ripped a double into the alley in right-center field.

Bu wasted no time in coming back to tie the game. After a two-out error, back-to-back hits resulted in the game-tying single off the bat of April Setterlund.

Tech came right back to take the lead in the bottom of the third inning. Sophomore Christy Jones led off with an infield single and then went to third base when redshirt junior Jen Yee doubled to the alley in right-center field. A sacrifice fly by senior Blair Shimandle gave the Jackets the lead again at 2-1, but BU pitcher Cassidi Hardy got out of a jam with a runner on third and one out.

Once again, the Terriers took advantage of a Yee error to tie the game at two. After her second error of the game gave BU runners at first and third with two outs, freshman Jessica Coan came in to pitch. A wild pitch on her first toss allowed the tying run to score, but she kept the Terriers off the board and sent the game onto the middle innings.

Yee more than made up for her errors, however, in the bottom of the fifth inning. After Jones led off with a single to left field, Yee crushed a two-run home run over the fence in right-center field giving Tech a 4-2 lead. It was Yee’s second round-tripper in as many days and ACC-leading 14th of the season.

Freshman Jessica Sinclair then gave Coan and the Yellow Jackets some insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as she ripped a two-run home run, her second of the year, off the scoreboard in left field. Later in the inning, Yee went deep again as she hit her 15th home run of the season into the parking lot in right-center field.

Tech now led 7-2 and that was more than enough for Coan. She picked right up where she left off after defeating Boston University Friday night as she struck out six batters and allowed just one hit and no walks over 3.1 innings for her eighth win of the season (8-3).
