No. 14 Jackets Host Doubleheader on Saturday

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis hosts Furman and The Citadel on Saturday, Feb. 25 for a doubleheader at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex. The first match against Furman kicks off at 12 p.m. followed by a second match against The Citadel at 5 p.m.

Setting the Scene: The Yellow Jackets moved up eight spots in the ITA rankings from No. 22 to No. 14 this week following a 6-1 rout of South Carolina last weekend. Tech comes into the weekend with a 5-2 record. The Furman Paladines come to The Flats with a 7-3 record with losses to Harvard, San Francisco and Yale. The Citadel Bulldogs bring in a 4-9 record having lost to ACC opponents Clemson, NC State and North Carolina.

Singles Update: Junior Christopher Eubanks remains in the top 10 of the national rankings at No. 7 with a 4-1 record. Senor Cole Fiegel remains undefeated with a 5-0 record. Last weekend the Jackets won at spots 1-4 with Eubanks at one, sophomore Andrew Li at two, senor Carlos Benito at three and freshman Carlos Divar at four.

Doubles Update: The Jackets have won the doubles point in all five of their wins this season. Last weekend Tech won on courts one and two. Eubanks and Michael Kay took number one doubles while Benito and Divar advanced to 5-1 on the season with a win on court two.

Head coach Kenny Thorne says: “Kelly Jones is a great coach at Furman and Chuck Kriese is probably the most experienced and one of the most successful tennis coaches in the nation so these two teams tomorrow will be ready to play. We have been competing well and need to continue to get better. We hope to get a good crowd on there again.”
