THE FLATS – Georgia Tech softball (14-8) put up a fight on Wednesday night against No. 12 Alabama (18-5) but came up short in the close contest, 3-1.

Head coach Aileen Morales says:
“Anytime you play a team like Alabama, you have to play errorless defense and limit the free passes. That being said, overall Anderson threw a good game and worked out of some tough situations. We continued to battle throughout the game, but weren’t able to come up with the timely hits in the late innings. I am still impressed with our fight, and believe we had multiple opportunities to change the outcome of the game.”

How it happened:
Senior Emily Anderson got the start in the circle for the Jackets. She kept Alabama off the board in the first. In the top of the second, the Crimson Tide drew a walk and then sent a home run ball over left field to get on the board 2-0.

The Jackets struggled offensively to start the game. Held scoreless through the first four innings, senior Kelsey Chisholm broke up the no-hitter in the bottom of the third with a single up the middle. Tech made it onto the board in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman Lilly Hooper led off the inning with a single to the shortstop. She advanced to second on a groundout from junior Kaylee Ellebracht. Sophomore Sydney Stavro entered as a pinch runner for Hooper at second and a single from Prairie advanced Stavro to third, landing Prairie at first. With two strikes on her and two outs on the board, Chisholm singled to the left side, scoring Stavro from third to get Tech on the board.

Held to two runs through the sixth, the Crimson Tide hit its second home run over the center-field fence in the top of the seventh to add its final tally of the game. The Jackets were unable to rally in the bottom half of the inning, landing the final score at 3-1. The Yellow Jackets held Alabama to two runs below its average this season.

Up next:
Tech is back on The Flats this weekend, hosting NC State for an Atlantic Coast Conference series at Mewborn Field, Friday-Sunday, March 16-18. All three games will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
