ATLANTA – The No. 11/8 Georgia Tech Softball team (8-1) takes a brief break from tournament play to host Kennesaw State (6-3) in the 2010 home opener at Mewborn Field Wednesday night at 6 p.m. Admission is free.
The Yellow Jackets are looking to rebound from their first loss of the season, a 4-1 set-back to No. 12/11 California in the final game of the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic on Sunday in Las Vegas. Tech had opened up the season 8-0, including two wins over ranked teams and three more in the “also receiving votes category.”
Georgia Tech is 6-4 all-time against Kennesaw State, including a 6-1 mark under Head Coach Sharon Perkins. The Jackets are led by Jen Yee, the winner of both ACC Player of the Week awards thus far. Yee is hitting .625 this season with 15 runs scored, 15 hits, three doubles, a triple, four home runs, 10 RBI and nine walks. She has a 1.333 slugging percentage and a .727 on-base percentage. She has hit safely in all nine games this season. Yee is tied for the team lead in home runs with freshman Hope Rush. Rush also has four to go along with her 11 RBI and a .379 batting average. In the circle, Rush is 5-1 with a 1.75 ERA and .203 opponent’s batting average.
After Wednesday’s game, the Jackets head right back out on the road to Columbus for the NFCA Leadoff Classic. There, Tech will take on Central Florida, Nebraska, Arkansas, No. 18/20 Louisiana Lafayette and Iowa in the three-day tournament.
