Box Score Teixeira Out With Broken Ankle
ATLANTA (Feb. 23) – Left fielder Matthew Boggs went 3-for-5 with four RBI to lead top-ranked Georgia Tech (6-1) to an 18-7 victory over visiting Elon (6-5) on Feb. 23 at Russ Chandler Stadium before a crowd of 1,436. The victory was Tech’s fifth in a row.
Trailing 6-3 after three and a half innings, Tech rallied for two runs in the fourth and three more runs in the fifth to take an 8-6 lead. Tech erupted for nine runs in the seventh inning to put the game out of reach.
Tech freshman Brian Burks (1-0) picked up the win in relief after allowing just one unearned run in three innings of work. ELon starter Brad Pinkerton (1-2), who surrendered seven runs on 12 hits in 4.1 innings, took the loss.
Tech catcher Tyler Parker, who went 2-for-4 with four runs scored in the game, blasted a solo homer in the second inning, his first of the season. Wes Rynders went 4-for-5, including his first home run of the season, and scored four runs. Brian Jackson and Richard Lewis each had three hits in the game for the Yellow Jackets. In all, the Tech offense pounded out 23 hits in the game.
Elon’s Whit Bryant had two home runs and five RBI in the loss, while shortstop Brian Ingram added three hits for the Phoenix.
Georgia Tech and Elon will continue the three-game series on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Russ Chandler Stadium.
