THE FLATS – With just one weekend left in the 2015-16 MLB regular season, a number of #ProJackets are looking to close out career-best seasons, while one Tech Hall of Famer will be honored in the final game of his 14-year career.
While this is Mark Teixeira‘s final season he isn’t going out quietly, as the 14-year veteran and three-time MLB All-Star recorded a career first on Wendesday night, Sept. 28, as he blasted a walk-off grand slam to give the Yankees the 5-3 win over the rival Boston Red Sox.
Teixeira’s walk-off grand slam
Over his last seven games, Teixeira has hit .318 with three home runs, including the walk-off grand slam, six RBIs, three runs scored and four walks.
The Yankees have announced that they will honor the retiring first baseman with a ceremony prior to the team’s regular season finale on Sunday, Oct. 2, versus the Baltimore Orioles.
Teixeira has played 14 seasons in the majors for the Texas Rangers, Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Angels and Yankees. He signed with the Yankees before the 2009 season and recorded his best season while leading them to a World Series title. He finished second in the AL MVP voting with a .292 batting average and a AL best 39 home runs and 122 RBIs.
