Nissan #ProJackets Baseball Report

Aug. 9, 2017

THE FLATS — The Georgia Tech baseball #ProJackets continue to shine in 2016-17, as three more Jackets in Matthew Gorst, Luke Bard and Sam Clay were all promoted in the last week, while Charlie Blackmon and Matt Wieters each blasted important home runs for their teams over the last seven days.

Blackmon reached a career milestone on Tuesday, Aug. 8, as he blasted his 100th career home run at the MLB level. On the season, Blackmon is hitting a career-best .330 with 151 total hits. He has 26 home runs, 13 triples, 24 doubles, 73 RBIs and 101 runs scored. He is on pace to top all of his previous career best marks, which he set last season.

On Aug. 6, Wieters provided a memorable home run for the Washington Nationals, as he broke up a 4-4 tie in the top of the eighth with a grand slam versus the Chicago Cubs. After a brief slump at the plate, Wieters has gone 4-for-8 with a home run and six RBIs over his last three games.

Fellow big leaguer Derek Dietrich has played well as of late, as the Miami Marlins’ third baseman has hit .306 with two home runs, a triple, four doubles and six RBIs over his last 10 games. He has hit safely in each of his last seven outings, which includes going 4-for-11 with a double and a walk in the three-game series at Atlanta on Aug. 4-6.

On the mound, Blake Wood continues to lower his ERA and picked up his first win on the season with a scoreless 0.1 inning versus San Diego on Aug. 7. Wood has allowed just two runs over his last 12.0 innings and has struck out 15 batters during that span.

In the MiLB, Gorst was promoted by the Boston Red Sox to the Salem Red Sox (Class A Advanced) on Aug. 3, while Bard was transferred to the Rochester Red Wings (Triple-A) by the Minnesota Twins on Aug. 6. Staying with the Twins organization, Clay was promoted to the Chattanooga Lookouts (Double-A) as well on Aug. 6.

New #ProJacket Zac Ryan recorded his first career win as a professional for the Burlington Bees on Aug. 6, while veteran Kyle Wren was just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle for the Colorado Sky Sox on Aug. 5.

Below is a complete list of the Baseball #ProJackets playing professionally this season.
