THE FLATS — The playoff push has begun across professional baseball, as the season is coming down to the final two months of play.
Charlie Blackmon’s career year continues as he heads into the month of August hitting .324 with 24 home runs, 13 triples, 20 doubles and a total of 134 base hits. He has driven in 69 RBIs and scored a total of 87 runs thus far this season. Over his last 10 games, he has hit .381 (16-for-42) with four home runs, three triples, two doubles, eight RBIs and 14 runs scored.
Derek Dietrich has got the start for the Miami Marlins in each of the last 10 games, while Matt Wieters has hit .286 with six RBIs over his last 10 outings. Blake Wood has pitched out of the bullpen in five games since the MLB All-Star break, and has not allowed a run over his last five innings of relief work for the Cincinnati Reds.
In the minor leagues, Sam Clay continues to shine out of the bullpen for the Fort Myers Miracle (Class A-Advanced) as he is 8-0 on the season with seven saves and a 1.36 ERA, while fellow reliever Luke Bard is 4-2 on the year with a 2.35 ERA, five saves and 69 strikeouts over 46.0 innings of work.
Since being called up to Class A Advanced on June 30, Brandon Gold has gone 3-0 with a 3.91 ERA over four starts for the LanCaster JetHawks, while righty Dusty Isaacs has struck out 52 hitters in only 42.1 innings out of the bullpen this season.
Andrew Robinson has come on strong of late, as he has struck out 28 batters in only 22.2 innings of work for the Harrisburg Senators (Double-A), while starter Deck McGuire has won eight games and totaled 119 strikeouts over 118.2 innings on the mound for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (Double-A).
