Dec. 8, 2003

Men’s swimmer Sam Morgan, volleyball standout Alexandra Preiss, men’s basketball player Jarrett Jack and women’s basketball player Fallon Stokes were named the Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, December 8, 2003.

Morgan, a sophomore from Gainesville, Ga., led the Yellow Jackets with third-place finishes in the 400-meter freestyle and 1650-yard freestyle at the Georgia Invitational. He tallied his first NCAA mark of the season in the 1650 free with a ‘B’ cut time of 15:31.18. Morgan led off the Tech relay team that placed fourth in the 800-meter free relay and tallied a 12th-place finish in the 400-meter individual medley with a time of 4:06.52.

Preiss, a senior from Berlin, Germany, led the volleyball team to two wins in the NCAA Tournament, helping them advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time in school history. In two matches, she averaged 4.83 kills per game, 1.50 blocks per game and hit .521. Against Florida A&M, she posted a match-high 16 kills, five blocks and hit .560. She currently leads the team in hitting percentage (.415) and is third on the team in kills per game (3.68).

Jack, a sophomore from Fort Washington, Md., continued his near flawless direction of Georgia Tech’s offense in Yellow Jacket victories last week at Ohio State (73-53) and vs. Tennessee State (94-43) at home. He averaged 12.5 points in the two games, averaged 6.5 rebounds, dished out 15 total assists and committed just two turnovers in 64 total minutes. He hit 8-of-13 shots from the floor (61.5 percent) and 8-of-11 from the foul line. Jack scored 14 points with six rebounds, four assists and two steals in Tech’s ACC-Big Ten Challenge triumph over Ohio State. Against Tennessee State Saturday, Jack notched his third double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 assists as Tech rolled up its largest winning margin since 1994.

Stokes, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., led the Jackets to a 60-54 victory over Davidson in their first home game of the season, recording the second double-double of the year and fifth of her career in the win. She led all scores with 23 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in the contest. She scored 19 of the Jackets’ 36 second-half points to lead Tech to the win. Against cross-town rival Georgia State, Stokes tied a season-high with 25 points in 36 minutes of play, including scoring the 1,000th point of her career. Overall, Stokes shot 44-percent from the field and 67-percent from the charity stripe, scored 48 points and pulled down 20 rebounds in two games. She also played a total of 69 minutes on the week.
