Metivier Earns Trip To NCAA Track & Field Championships

May 25, 2001

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech rookie runner Renee Metivier (Highland Village, Texas) has earned a berth to compete in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the NCAA announced today. The four-day event will be held at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore.

Metivier was the only Yellow Jacket to gain a spot in the field as a result of her NCAA Provisional Qualifying time of 10:22.31 in the steeplechase. That time not only qualified her for the national meet, but also set a new Georgia Tech school record in the process.

The 3000-meter steeplechase competition will get under way on Wednesday, May 30 with the semifinals beginning at 6:25 p.m. PDT, and will conclude with the finals at 6:55 p.m. PDT on Friday, June 1. Results will be available at www.ncaachampionships.com and at www.ramblinwreck.com.
