CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The 54th-ranked Georgia Tech men’s tennis team edged 20th-ranked Miami, 4-3, Wednesday night at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Georgia Tech won the first point of the match with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Sophomores Roger Anderson and David Wright defeated MiamiÆs Peter Hoffman and Tomas Smid, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles. At No. 3, seniors Sergio Aguirre and Jason Jeong upended Andrew Golub and Johan Lindqvist, 8-2.
In singles play, the Yellow Jackets and Hurricanes battled to the final match. Tech won at No. 3 (Wright defeated Linqvistand 7-6 (9), 7-6 (5)) and No. 4 (freshman Stephen Moros defeated Hoffman, 6-4, 6-4) while Miami claimed victories at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6. With the match tied at three, Anderson outlasted Smid, 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 on court No. 2 to seal the upset.
Georgia Tech improved to 6-3 with the win and plays at Florida Atlantic on Thursday. Miami fell to 9-2.
