THE FLATS – Junior Tyaunna Marshall was named ACC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after leading Georgia Tech to a 76-49 victory over Alcorn State Dec. 16, the conference announced Monday.
In the win over the Lady Braves, Marshall converted 80.0 percent of her field goal attempts (12-of-15) and tied her career-high with 28 points in only 28 minutes of play. It was the 62nd time in her career that she has scored in double digits and the 17th time in which she has tallied at least 20 points. Her 80.0 percent conversion rate helped Georgia Tech post its best shooting game of the 2012-13 season. Marshall added five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
“Ty Marshall is one of the top five players in the ACC,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “She is playing at a very high level right now and is very deserving of this honor.”
It is the first career ACC Player of the Week award for Marshall, who earned five ACC Rookie of the Week honors during the 2010-11 campaign. Marshall was named a first-team preseason All-ACC by both the coaches and media at the league’s media day in October. She was also named to the preseason watch lists for both the Wooden and Naismith national player of the year awards.
Marshall and the Jackets will take on the Washington Huskies in their final game before breaking for Christmas when the two sides tip off at noon on Friday, Dec. 21, at McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta. Tickets are available by calling 888-TECH-TIX or on RamblinWreck.com.
