Marshall Named ACC Offensive Back of the Week

Sept. 5, 2017

THE FLATS – After breaking three school records and one Atlantic Coast Conference record in his first-career start, Georgia Tech quarterback TaQuon Marshall has been named the ACC Offensive Back of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Additionally, Marshall has also been tabbed as a Manning Award Stars of the Week, as selected by the Allstate Sugar Bowl. The Manning Award Stars of the Week recognize the nation’s top eight quarterback performances each week throughout the season.

Making his first-career start and only his third collegiate appearance as a quarterback, Marshall rushed for 249 yards and five touchdowns on 44 attempts and added 120 yards through the air in Georgia Tech’s heartbreaking 42-41, double-overtime loss to Tennessee on Monday night in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Marshall’s 249 rushing yards were the most ever by a Georgia Tech or ACC quarterback, breaking the Tech record of 199 yards set by Eddie Prokop versus Tulsa in the 1944 Sugar Bowl and the conference record of 226 set by Louisville’s Lamar Jackson against Texas A&M in the 2015 Music City Bowl. The junior also set school records for rushing touchdowns and carries in a single game, regardless of position.

Marshall and the Yellow Jackets look to rebound from Monday’s defeat when they open the home portion of their schedule on Saturday versus Jacksonville State (ranked No. 5 nationally in NCAA Division I FCS). Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. at Bobby Dodd Stadium. Tickets are still available beginning at just $15 and can be purchased online by clicking HERE.

Saturday’s home opener versus Jacksonville State is a GOLDOUT. All Georgia Tech fans are encouraged to wear gold. Click HERE to purchase Tech’s official 2017 GOLDOUT t-shirt online.
