Georgia Tech placekicker Luke Manget has been named to the Preseason Watch List for the 2002 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award.
A senior from Conyers, Ga., Manget is a two-time first-team all-Atlantic Coast Conference honoree. He earned preseason all-America recognition from several publications, including Lindy’s magazine, which named him a first-team all-America.
Manget has made an ACC-record 131 consecutive extra points and is within reach of the NCAA record of 161 in a row by John Becksvoort of Tennessee. With 257 points, Manget is also nearing the Tech career scoring record of 299 points. He enters his final season with the highest career field goal percentage in school history at .700 (42-60).
The 11th Annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, presented by the FedEx Orange Bowl, willl be given out during a ceremony on Tuesday, December 10, at the Sheraton West Palm Beach Hotel at CityPlace in West Palm Beach, Fla.
The watch list also includes last year’s Lou Groza Award winner, Seth Marler of Tulane, and 2000 Groza winner, Jonathan Ruffin of Cincinnati. Auburn’s Damon Duval and Alex Walls of Tennessee both are past finalists who are also on the list.
