Letter from the President

April 9, 2013

Dear GT Letterwinners Club,

I would like to take a moment to introduce myself as part of the Georgia Tech Letterwinners Club (“GTLWC”), and President of the GTLWC Steering Committee. I have served in various officer roles the past five years, including Secretary, Baseball Liaison, Vice President, and now President. Through my involvement I have enjoyed participating in our monthly meetings, planning events, and facilitating discussions in an effort to carry out our mission; to make each student-athlete a lifetime member of the Georgia Tech Athletics family.

As part of our mission, one of our main initiatives this year is to connect/re-connect our former student-athletes and keep them involved in the goings on at our alma mater. It is my pleasure to report tremendous feedback of our most recent attempt at this goal, the first edition of the GTLWC Newsletter. The purpose of the newsletter is to highlight Club events and provide our letterwinners with the opportunity to stay connected with Georgia Tech, Georgia Tech Athletics, and more importantly, with one another.

Through Paciolan, a system used by universities nationwide, we are able to track unique opens and click-throughs. Sending the newsletter via 3,093 unique emails resulted in 1,069 unique opens (2,003 total opens). We are receiving very low bounce backs and few are opting to unsubscribe. The feature stories, a welcome piece about the Club and a fall event recap with 210 reads, as well as our In Memoriam section with 183 reads, received the most action. Ronnie Mabra’s Letterwinner profile story received 57 reads, and 56 readers visited the Letterwinner Lounge picture gallery, to which we will be sure to add photos continuing this fall for the upcoming football season. Below the newsletter on the individual sport links, Football and Cheerleading were the two most-clicked sports with 54 and 28 clicks, respectively.

Your feedback is important to us, and we thank you for the positive comments thus far. If you would like to see something in particular in the newsletter, have questions, comments or concerns, or if you are interested in volunteering, please feel free to reach out to me at 404-210-2584 or royceoverton@bellsouth.net. In addition, the Steering Committee meets the second Thursday of each month in the Athletic Association, and meetings are open to any Letterwinner.

I look forward to hearing from you. Go Jackets!

R. Jahmal Overton (Baseball, 2000)
President, Georgia Tech Letterwinners Club
