GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech Senior Kristen Adkins and freshman Alysha Rudnik have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Pitcher and Player of the week, respectively, the league office announced on Monday. The duo helped lead the No. 18/17 Yellow Jackets to a 5-0 opening weekend and National Collegiate Invitational title in Clermont, Fla.

Adkins went 2-0 and picked up a save while not allowing an earned run in 15 innings of work. The McKinney, Texas native allowed just 11 hits for a .190 opponent’s batting average and recorded 22 strikeouts and just four walks. Adkins got wins in each of her two starts, against Chattanooga (Feb. 11) and Fordham (Feb. 13), while striking out 17 batters in those two contests. She also recorded a save Feb. 12 against Chattanooga. Adkins was part of a pitching staff that did not allow a single extra-base hit in 25 innings of work over the weekend.

Rudnik began her collegiate career batting .588 (10-for-17) with four runs scored, three doubles, a triple, home run and five RBI. She also had a walk and struck out just once. The Lawrenceville, Ga., native compiled an on-base percentage of .611 and a slugging percentage of 1.059. She had a hit in all five games this weekend and hit safely in her first four at bats of the year. In her collegiate debut against FAU on Friday, Rudnik went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a home run which tied the game at two. On Saturday against Fordham, it was her two-out, three-run triple off the wall in right field on a 0-2 pitch which broke open a 1-0 game in the sixth inning.

The Yellow Jackets return to action Feb. 18-20 at the Felsberg Memorial Tournament in Miami, Fla. Georgia Tech will face Illinois (1 p.m.) and host-school Florida International (5 p.m.) on Friday, Feb. 18. The next day, Tech will face Providence (10 a.m.) and Pittsburgh (Noon) before closing out the tournament on Sunday, Feb. 20 against FIU again at 1 p.m. Live audio and stats for each game is available at RamblinWreck.com.
