Kirillov Named ACC Track & Field Athlete of the Week

March 20, 2012

GREENSBORO, N.C. – After an outstanding performance in the pole vault during week one of the outdoor track and field season, Georgia Tech freshman Nikita Kirillov has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Male Track and Field Athlete of the Week.

At the Georgia Intercollegiate Invite, Kirillov cleared 17-3.5, the second-best height in the NCAA so far this year, breaking an 18 year old school record. The native of Atlanta, Ga., beat the previous mark, set by Jamie Traylor in 1994, by more than eight inches. He now has set both the indoor and outdoor pole vault school records in his freshman season.

Kirllov and the Yellow Jackets will return to action at the UCF Invitational in Orlando, Fla. on Friday and Saturday March 23 and 24.
