GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech junior shortstop Kelsi Weseman has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Co-Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. This is the second weekly award for Weseman and sixth time a Yellow Jacket has been honored.
The Hutto, Texas native batted .700 (7-for-10) on the week as Georgia Tech closed out the regular season with its ACC-record 24th straight series win, taking two out of three games from Florida State.
Weseman had two home runs, two doubles, a triple and nine RBI in the three games while also getting intentionally walked once. She now ranks third in Georgia Tech’s single-season records with 21 home runs, while her 64 RBI are good for fourth. Her career numbers of 42 home runs and 164 RBI rank fifth and fourth, respectively, in school history as well.
Weseman and the Yellow Jackets are preparing to host the 2011 ACC Tournament, May 13-15, at Mewborn Field. Top-seeded Tech will play eighth-seeded Virginia in the first round Friday at 5 p.m. The single elimination tournament continues with the semifinals on Saturday (1/3:30 p.m.) and then Sunday’s 1 p.m. championship game which will be televised locally on SportSouth.
