Julian Royal Signs Basketball Letter-of-Intent with Tech

Nov. 10, 2010

ATLANTA – Julian Royal, a 6-8 forward from Milton High School in Milton, Ga., signed a letter-of-intent to play basketball at Georgia Tech, head coach Paul Hewitt announced Wednesday.

Royal led Milton High to the Georgia state championship and a 29-4 overall record last year in class AAAAA, the state’s highest classification, after averaging 18 points and eight rebounds per game. He enters his senior season already holding the Eagles’ career record for points scored with 1,602, and has led Milton in scoring each of the past three years.

“We are thrilled to have Julian join our program, and thrilled to have his family be a part of our program,” said Hewitt. “Our staff, particularly Darryl LaBarrie, did a terrific job in Julian’s recruitment, and we look forward to having him on our campus next year.”

He made the Georgia all-state team in AAAAA in 2009 as a first-team selection, in 2008 as a second-team pick, and in 2007 as an honorable mention choice. He was the AAAAA North player of the year last season.

Ranked 66th in the nation according to ESPN.com’s recruiting rankings, the 200-pound Royal is ranked 12th among power forwards in the nation and carries a 4.5-star rating. He is rated 64th in the 2011 class and 13th among power forwards by Scout.com, and 90th and 15th by Rivals.com.
