Johnnise Renaud Tabbed ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s tennis junior Johnnise Renaud earned ACC recognition this afternoon, being tabbed the ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week. Renaud posted a 4-0 mark in singles and doubles play over the weekend to help the Jackets clinch a spot in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships next month.

“Johnnise had a great weekend,” noted head coach Rodney Harmon. “She and her doubles partner, Rasheeda McAdoo, defeated two ranked teams and Johnnise also had a great performance in singles play.”

As the Jackets upended both Penn and No. 24 UCLA in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, Renaud was instrumental in both matches. The junior from North Miami, Fla., who paired with Rasheeda McAdoo in doubles, opened the weekend topping the No. 20 duo of Zhu/Daniel at No. 1 doubles 6-0 before upending Ashley Zhu in singles, 6-0, 6-1.

Renaud was paramount in Tech’s win over the Bruins in the championship match on Sunday. With McAdoo, the pair clinched the doubles point, winning a hard-fought 12-10 tiebreak over No. 9 Hart/Shibahara to give Tech the early 1-0 lead entering singles play. Facing Alaina Miller in singles at the No. 3 spot, Renaud bounced back from dropping the first set to defeat Miller in three sets and give Tech a 3-1 match lead.

For the season, Renaud is 3-1 in dual singles matches and 4-0 in dual doubles matches.

The Jackets return to the court on Sunday, Feb. 5 welcoming Tennessee for a 3 p.m. match at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
