THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s tennis senior Johnnise Renaud picked up ACC Player of the Week honors on Tuesday after going 4-0 in a pair of wins for the Yellow Jackets. It marked the first weekly honor for Tech this season.
Renaud opened last week helping Tech upset No. 6 Georgia, 4-2. The senior clinched both the doubles point and the match with a straight-set singles win. In doubles play, partnered with Ida Jarlskog, the duo clinched a crucial doubles point, battling back from a 3-1 deficit to even the match at 5-all. After breaking Georgia to take a 6-5 edge, Jarlskog served out the match for a 7-5 win and handed Tech the 1-0 lead entering singles play. After Tech took a 3-2 match lead, Renaud clinched the match on court three, defeating Elena Christofi, 6-3, 7-6.
Renaud followed the Georgia match helping the Jackets to a 4-3 win at No. 19 Florida State to open ACC play. Renaud/Jarlskog once again clinched the doubles point. After trailing 2-0, the pair won six of the next eight points to capture a 6-4 triumph for Tech. The senior put Tech up 3-0 in the match, taking a straight-set win over Petra Hule, 6-2, 6-3.
QUOTABLE: “Johnnise is so deserving of this honor. She played so well last week and helps to lead our team.” Head Coach Rodney Harmon
