STARKVILLE, Miss. – Georgia Tech redshirt senior second baseman Jen Yee has been named Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I National Player of the Week. This is the second time this season Yee has won this national award. Earlier today, she picked up her fifth ACC Player of the Week award.
Yee batted .733 (11-for-15) as the No. 9/7 Yellow Jackets (41-6, 14-1 ACC) went 6-0 on the week. She scored 14 runs and added two doubles, three home runs, five RBI, six walks, a hit by pitch and three stolen bases. Yee slugged 1.467 on the week and had a .818 on-base percentage. The North Delta, British Columbia native reached base safely in all 10 plate appearances of the weekend series against Boston College and did not commit an error all week long.
On Saturday against Boston College, Yee broke Tara Knudsen’s school-record for all-time walks (119) and also took down assistant coach Aileen Morales’ single-season runs scored record (73). It took Yee 24 less games to break Morales’ record. On Sunday, Yee hit her 24th home run of the season tying Whitney Haller’s 2006 ACC and Georgia Tech single-season record.
Yee and the Yellow Jackets have four games this week, all against ranked teams. On Wednesday, the Jackets play a 5 p.m. game at No. 13/11 Georgia. Then over the weekend, Tech travels to Tallahassee for a weekend series against No. 19/16 Florida State. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. and then a single game Sunday at Noon. Tech begins play this week holding a four-game lead in the loss column over second-place Virginia with six games remaining.
