Senior Jemea Thomas has been honored by the Atlantic Coast Conference as the Defensive Back of the Week following his 15-tackle performance in Saturday’s 35-25 win at Virginia.
Thomas set a career high with his 15 tackles, which were the most by a Yellow Jacket since Morgan Burnett had 16 versus Georgia in 2009. Thomas’ 12 solo stops were the most at Tech since 2003 and his two breakups matched a career high.
The Queensland, Ga., native is Tech’s leading tackler in 2013 (52) and also leads the Jackets were seven pass breakups. Thomas is set to play his 50th career game Saturday when the White & Gold (5-3, 4-2) hosts Pittsburgh (4-3, 2-2) at 7 p.m. on Homecoming Weekend.
Thomas, who earned his first ACC weekly accolade since 2011, shared this week’s Defensive Back of the Week award with Virginia Tech’s Kendall Fuller.
Tech has earned five ACC weekly honors this season with Vad Lee winning Offensive Back accolades on Sept. 16, Shaquille Mason twice being named Offensive Lineman of the week (Sept. 16 and 23), Quayshawn Nealy taking Linebacker of the Week honors (Oct. 21) and Thomas.
