TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Georgia Tech track team finished its first meet of the outdoor season Saturday at the Alabama Relays at Sam Bailey Track.
“It was another successful day with several PRs,” head men’s track coach Grover Hinsdale said. “The 800m group of Zane Coburn, Gabriel Darosa, Zack Fanelty and Andres Littig all had solid races. I was pleased with Spencer Allen in the 110m HH race, as well as Myles McDavid’s performance in the long jump.”
“The women had another good day to finish competition at the Alabama Relays,” head women’s track coach Alan Drosky said. “Ama Larbi, Samantha Becker, Samantha Kiblinger, Kenya Collins and Jamilah Middlebrooks all had strong outdoor openers. The 4x400m relay team also competed very well. As a team we need to build on this start to the season and keep making progress on all event areas.”
Samantha Becker placed third in the pole vault to start the final day at the Alabama Relays. Becker cleared the bar at 3.95m (12-11.5) on her second try for third place.
Kenya Collins took fifth in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.09. On the men’s side, Spencer Allen placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.56. Jamilah Middlebrooks placed sixth in the 100-meter invitational with a time of 12.10.
The Jackets were successful in both the men’s and women’s 800 meters. Andres Littig placed second in the men’s race (1:51.03), followed by Zack Fanelty in third (1:51.27). Zane Coburn took fifth (1:51.49) and Gabriel Darosa placed eighth (1:53.35) to round out Tech’s top finishers. For the women, Samantha Kiblinger took fourth (2:11.53) and Christina Pensock finished eighth (2:13.75)
The women’s 4×400-meter relay team comprised of Domonique Hall, Jazmyne Taylor, Ama Larbi and Pensock finished second in a time of 3:44.67.
The women’s DMR run by Haley Anderson, Shannon Innis, Morgan Jackson and Rachel Thorne placed sixth with a time of 12:04.40.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action March 27-28 when they host the Yellow Jacket Invitational at Griffin Track.
