Off to its best start since 1995-96, Georgia Tech women’s basketball continues this homestand on Wednesday, welcoming Mississippi State for the second edition of the SEC/ACC Challenge. The Yellow Jackets are coming off a commanding win over Florida A&M to open the homestand on Sunday, downing the Rattlers, 98-56. Tech saw offensive output from all 11 Jackets that took the floor, leading to a stellar shooting night, connecting on 61.7 percent of its attempts from the field. Kara Dunn led the way with 19 points, while Kayla Blackshear recorded her first double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Mississippi State comes into the matchup also undefeated on the year at 8-0. The Bulldogs opened the season with a five-game homestand, but are in the midst of playing five-straight away from Starkville. Most recently, MSU won a pair of games in the Cayman Classic, topping Utah and South Florida. Graduate student Jerkaila Jordan was named to the All-Tournament team after scoring 20 points against USF. Eniya Russell leads MSU offensively on the year, averaging 14.0 points per game.
Last year marked the first installment of the SEC/ACC Challenge. Georgia Tech played host to Florida and saw then-freshman Rusne Augustinaite drop a career-high 30 points in the outing. Tech fell to the Gators, 68-58. Meanwhile, MSU welcomed Miami to Starkville, falling 74-68.
Wednesday’s meeting between the programs will be a rematch as the two squads met in postseason play last year in the WBIT in Starkville, Miss. MSU took the match-up, 84-47, to move the all-time series record to 5-1 in favor of the Bulldogs. Tech’s only win in the series came in 2007 in Starkville.

GEORGIA TECH WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CELEBRATES 50 YEARS
Georgia Tech is celebrating the 50th anniversary of women’s basketball on The Flats this season. Under the direction of coach Jim Culpepper, Georgia Tech competed its first year in the Georgia Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (GAIAW) in 1974-75 before joining the ACC in 1979-80. Tech has seen many highlights over 50 years, including playing in the NCAA Tournament 11 times, with two Sweet 16 appearances (2012, 2021), and producing nine WNBA draft picks, featuring first round draft picks Alex Montgomery and Sasha Goodlett. In its first postseason berth in school history, Georgia Tech captured the 1992 National Women’s Invitational Tournament. Currently in its sixth season under head coach Nell Fortner, the Yellow Jackets have reach postseason play three times in the last five years.
