ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech softball team (32-12, 6-3 ACC) will travel to Raleigh, N.C., for a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series with NC State (33-14, 6-3 ACC) this Saturday and Sunday, April 8-9. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. and a single game at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The Yellow Jackets hold a 7-1 advantage in the overall series and have won six straight against the Wolfpack. Tech defeated NC State, 7-1, on March 5, in the championship game of the Atlanta Marriott Buzz Classic in Marietta, Ga.
Tech swept Chattanooga on Wednesday, 11-7 and 7-6, at Glenn Field. Freshman Whitney Haller smacked three home runs and drove in 10 runs to set a new single-season ACC record with 17 homers on the season. She has 55 runs batted in and ranks second in the nation in home runs and RBI.
Senior Amy Hosier has also been swinging a hot bat for the Jackets. Hosier hit the game-winning walk-off home run in the nightcap against the Lady Mocs and is second on Tech’s squad with a .400 batting average. She ranks second in the ACC, 12th in the nation, with 39 RBI.
Sophomore Whitney Humphreys continues to lead the Jackets in the circle. Humphreys is 15-2 on the season, with a team-low 1.83 earned run average. She is off to one of the best starts in Georgia Tech history, posting a 23-2 career record in her first one-and-a-half seasons as a Yellow Jacket pitcher.
The Yellow Jackets will return to Atlanta for six games next week, beginning with Georgia Southern on Tuesday. That single game is slated for a 4 p.m. start at Glenn Field.
