The Yellow Jackets faced the Hurricanes once this season, coming away with a 52-37 win over Miami on Jan. 15 in the Alexander Memorial Coliseum, Tech’s home court. Kentrina Wilson added 11 points and Chioma Nnamaka scored 10 points while both tied for a team-high eight rebounds.

Tech leading rebounder Janie Mitchell sat out of the last contest with Miami due to a Medial Collateral Ligament sprain suffered three games prior. Mitchell has since returned to the Yellow Jacket starting line up and is the second-leading scorer with 13.8 points per game.

In Georgia Tech’s last trip to Miami, the Jackets fell 90-85 in overtime on Feb. 27, 2006 as Jill Ingram notched a career-high 20 points shooting 9-of-13 from the field. Mitchell grabbed a double-double with her 10 rebounds and 17 points in 45 minutes of play.

In her fourth season as the Tech’s head coach, MaChelle Joseph is 4-2 against the Hurricanes, while veteran Miami’s Katie Meier, in her second season at the institution, is 1-3 against Georgia Tech.

Senior Stephanie Higgs is leading the Jackets in scoring with 15.5 PPG which is seventh in the league. Higgs recently earned ACC Player of the Week honors for the week of Feb. 5 for her 26-point display on Feb. 1 to lead the Jackets past No. 4 Maryland, 77-72. She is coming off her sixth 20-point effort, scoring a game-high 25 points in the Feb. 11 win over NC State.
