THE FLATS — After a successful opening weekend, the Georgia Tech track and field team will travel to Florida for the Florida State Relays.
The Jackets will travel with 49 student athletes, 25 from the women’s team and 24 from the men’s team.
In last weekend’s Yellow Jacket Invitational the Georgia Tech track and field team saw great performances despite the cold weather.
In the 4 x 400 relay the Jackets were led by Lionel Jones, Avery Bartlett, Daniel Pietsch, and Ben Jean where they propelled the Jackets to a first place finish with a time of 3:11.89. Also performing well on the men’s team was Ryan Thomas who jumped a personal-best mark in the long jump (7.14m) to add to his second place finish.
On the women’s side Amy Ruiz and Jeanine Williams did not disappoint. Ruiz topped her personal-best time in the women’s 800 meter event with a time of 2:12.05 while Williams finished in third in the women’s 100-meter event with a time of 11.84. Williams would also finish in second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.39.
The Jackets will look to build on last weekend’s successes in week two of the outdoor season.
