Jackets Thwarted by No. 5 Tigers

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech softball (16-15, 2-7 ACC) was downed by No. 5 Clemson (31-1, 8-0 ACC), 13-0 (5), on Sunday at Mewborn Field. Sophomore left fielder Madison Dobbins picked up the lone hit on the day for the White and Gold with a long single off the wall in center.

Three Yellow Jackets spent time in the circle as sophomore right hander Sophia Voyles got the start, receiving the loss after picking up five strikeouts in 2.1 innings pitched. Senior hurler Chandler Dennis also tossed 2.1 innings, while freshman pitcher Jaidyn Studebaker picked up Tech’s final out in her first collegiate appearance.

Clemson got rolling early, knocking a two-run shot in the top of the first. The Tigers tacked onto their lead with a three-run jack in the third and later shut the door in the top of the fifth with an eight-run inning. The Tigers barreled three doubles for five RBI, walked in a run and swatted a two-run blast in the fifth to push up to a 13-0 advantage, closing out the final half inning to secure the win.
