GAINESVILLE, Fla – Georgia Tech track and field took on Gainesville for the Tom Jones Memorial on Friday, registering 15 career bests on the day. The rest of the squad wraps up the Penn Relays in Philadelphia on Saturday.
The women started off the day with the long jump. Carissa Tipler launched to a lifetime-best mark of 5.99m for a sixth-place finish. Dasia Smith took seventh with a career-best mark of 5.92m. Marinice Bauman posted a career-best time in the 100m hurdles of 14.01. Angelica Henderson registered a personal record in the 400m dash of 54.70. Domonique Hall recorded her best time in the 200m of 24.57. Mary Claire Solomon notched a career best in the 1500m with a time of 4:42.42.
Andreas Ward posted a career-best time in the 110m hurdle prelims of 14.18, advancing to the finals before ultimately finishing eighth. Tyson Spears and Zachary Gunnz both registered career bests in the men’s 100m with time of 10.45 and 10.50, respectively. Maurice Simpson also posted a career best in the 100m dash of 10.77. Lionel Jones recorded a personal record in the 400m with a time of 48.52. Junior William Solomon took a career-best jump of 7.55m in the long jump for a fifth-place finish.
Four of the six Yellow Jackets racing in the 1500m posted career bests: Frank Pittman (3:48.84), Andrew Matson (3:55.75), Mitchell Sanders (3:55.81) and Miles Dayoub (3:59.74).
