Jackets Take 11th at ACC Championships

BOSTON, Mass. – At their first ever meet in the state of Massachusetts, the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams captured 11th place at the ACC Championships, Saturday. The Championships were held for the first time at prestigious Franklin Park, on a blustery, 51 degree day in Boston.

Mary Kate DuBard led all runners with her 23rd place finish in the women’s race. DuBard finished with a time of 21:06.4 in the 6K meet. On the men’s side of things, D.J. McMillan led the Jacket pack for the second-straight race coming across in 43rd place with a time of 25:04.9.

The rest of the women’s team started coming across in 82nd when Megan Brietbach finished with a time of 22:47.9. Betsy Kim was the next runner to come across with an 87th place finish in 22:55.3, Felicity Brower took 93rd with a 23:09.8 finish and Mary Kownack came across just one runner later in 94th with a time of 23:21.8.

Florida State took home the women’s team title earning just 52 points on the day while averaging a time of 20:36.6 The top individual finisher, and Freshman of the Year, was Laura Hoer of NC State who came across in first place with a time of 20:04.1.

On the men’s side of things, the second Jacket to come across was Patrick Barron in 47th place with a time of 25:10.7. Barron was followed by Mark Mendrek-Laske in 65th with a time of 25:39.6, Niall Longobardi in 76th in 25:58.5 and then Phillip O’Brien who finished in 79th place with a time of 26:05.9.

Florida State swept the team titles with a men’s team victory earning a mere 43 points. The ACC Male Performer of the Year is Emil Heineking, a senior from Virginia who paced all runners with a time of 23:40.1. The ACC Freshman of the Year on the men’s side was Jakub ZIvec of Florida State who came across in 11th in 24:07.6.

Some of the Jackets will be back in action in a couple of weeks at the NCAA South Region Championships in Birmingham, Ala. on November 13.
