ATLANTA – Freshman Vesna Stojanovska (Skopje, Macedonia) picked up three wins in day one of the tri meet versus Purdue and Florida Atlantic to lead the Yellow Jackets in the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center tonight. Stojanovska set a school and pool record in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:11.58, while also tallying wins in the 200 free (1:50.99) and 200 butterfly (2:03.39). Sophomore Sam Morgan (Gainesville, Ga.) notched a win for the Jackets in the 1000 free with a time of 9:26.82. The Tech women lead the Boilermakers, 94-92, and the Owls 112.50-67.50. The Rambling Wreck men trail Purdue, 123-63, and lead FAU, 127-50, after the first day of competition.
Junior Anna Saum (Toledo, Ohio) notched her first win of the season with a time of 58.23 in the 100 backstroke to close out first-place finishes for Tech.
Picking up runner-up finishes for the Jackets were juniors Jeremy Raines (Americus, Ga.) and Marc Maier (Portland, Ore.), sophomores Jason Howard (Snellville, Ga.) and Meghan DeVinney (Avondale, Ariz.) and freshmen Ryan Bishop (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) and Alison Walker (Marietta, Ga.).
Raines finished the 100 back with a time of 52.15, while Maier had a time of 21.57 in the 50 free. Howard ended the 200 free with a time of 1:42.74 and DeVinney claimed second behind teammate Stojanovska in the 200 fly with a time of 2:04.02. Bishop swam the 200 individual medley in 1:54.45 to finish second and Walker rounded out the second-place finishers for Tech in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.18.
Purdue’s Steve LoBue led the diving competition with a NCAA Zone Diving qualifying mark of 330.18 in the three-meter event.
