Jackets Round Out VT Elite Meet With Seven Top-10 Finishes

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams finished out their time at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet on Saturday with seven top-10 finishes including a second place performance in the pole vault by Joanna Wright.

Wright launched herself 4.16 meters into the air for the second place finish, a mark that would have been a school record had she not already set it at 4.30 meters last weekend at the Rod McCravy Invitational.

Also competing in the pole vault at the meet was Erica Penk who finished in ninth place with a height of 3.51 meters. On the men’s side, Aaron Unterberger also earned a ninth place finish in the pole vault with a height of 5.02 meters.

Jhanelle McLeod and Julienne McKee earned ninth and 13th place finishes in the triple jump respectively. McLeod launched herself 12.09 meters while McKee leaped 11.80 meters in the event. Jonathan Gardner came in ninth in the triple jump on the men’s side coming in with a distance of 14.33 meters.

Mykhail Chambers finished the meet with a fifth place showing in the high jump, leaping 2.06 meters while Kayla McKiernan jumped 1.64 meters for a 12th place finish on the women’s side.

The only track events the Jackets took part in on the day was the 400m dash open. Kellie Christian took the top finish for Tech with a time of 57.10 while Briana Richardson finished 20th for the Jackets with a time of 1:03.70. Jay Oatts was the lone male runner for Tech coming across the line in 16th place with a time of 50.69.
