ATLANTA (Oct. 28) – The Georgia Tech volleyball team returns to its home court to face Maryland and Virginia in two conference matches this weekend looking to snap a four-match losing streak.
The Yellow Jackets (13-10, 3-7) will take on the Terrapins (11-14, 4-7) Friday night at 7:30 p.m. Earlier in the season, Maryland defeated Tech in a five game, two and a half hour thriller. In that match, the Jackets were led by sophomore outside hitter Maja Pachale (Schwerin, Germany) who had a 27-kill, 15-dig performance and Ky Bell (Rocklin, Calif.) who collected 19 kills and posted a .326 hitting percentage..
“Any match on our home court is important to us,” said head coach Shelton Collier. “We matched up well against Maryland last weekend and it will be another competitive match on Friday”.
On Saturday night, the Yellow Jackets will face Virginia (15-6, 8-3) at 7:30 p.m. In their earlier meeting, Tech fell to the Cavaliers in four games. In that match, the Jackets’ offense struggled as Pachale was held to a .051 hitting percentage, and the team combined for just 58 kills.
“Virginia is a very good team this year and it will take our best effort on Saturday night,” said Collier. “But, in your own gym, anything is possible, and we hope to use the home-court advantage. to our benefit this weekend.”
