2018 NCAA Championships Information

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s swimming and diving will have a total of four Jackets in Christian Ferraro, Moises Loschi, Caio Pumputis and Matt Casillas compete this week at the 2018 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by the University of Minnesota at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minn. From March 21-24.

Both Ferraro and Pumputis will start things off for the Jacket swimmers in the 200 IM on Thursday, March 22. The two freshmen qualified for the individual medley event with NCAA B times of 1:47.23 for Ferraro and 1:45.46 for Pumputis, which both rank in the top-five all-time in Georgia Tech history.

All three swimmers in Ferraro, Loschi and Pumputis will hit the water on Friday, March 23, as Ferraro will take part in the 100 fly, while both Loschi and Pumputis will compete in the 100 breast event.

Ferraro qualified for the 100 fly with his team season-best time of 46.65 at the ACC Championships in February, while both Loschi and Pumputis recorded respective NCAA B times of 53.06 and 54.45 to earn a spot in the 100 breast event at the NCAAs.

On the final day of competition, all four Jackets will be in action in three different events.

Casillas, who is competing in his first NCAAs like both first-year Jackets Ferraro and Pumputis, will be diving in the men’s platform dive on Saturday. The junior qualified for the platform event with a sixth-place finish and 12-dive score of 672.53 at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships in Knoxville, Tenn. earlier this month.

Both Loschi (1:54.23), who is swimming in his second-straight NCAAs, and Pumputis (1:53.45) will swim in the 100 breast event, where the two turned in NCAA B qualifying times at the ACCs last month. Loschi is the school-record holder in the event with a time of 1:53.08 set just last season.

Ferraro will wrap up his first NCAAs on Saturday in the 200 fly event. He qualified for the NCAAs with a school record 200 fly time of 1:41.26 at the 2018 American Short Course Championships in Austin, Texas. His NCAA A qualifying mark ranks 12th nationally this season.

The 2018 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships will begin with the 800 free relay on Wednesday night, March 21, at 6 p.m.

Thursday through Saturday, March 22-24, the prelims will start each day at 10 a.m. and the finals will begin at 6 p.m.
