Jackets Open ITA National Team Indoor Championships Friday

THE FLATS — The 7th-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team opens the 2018 ITA National Team Indoor Championships on Friday facing Michigan in the first round. Tech is one of the top 16 programs in the country heading to the University of Wisconsin for one of the biggest collegiate tennis tournaments of the year.

THE SCENE: The field of 16 Division I women’s tennis programs will compete at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wisc., for the team indoor national championship over the four-day event, Feb. 9-12. The 2018 field boasts 15 nationally-ranked programs in the top 25. In the first round, the Jackets will face 10th-ranked Michigan on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

The event is in its 31st year of existence. Fifteen teams qualified for the event by winning their respective 2018 ITA Kick-Off Weekend regionals, while Wisconsin received an automatic bid as the host site. The tournament is a single-elimination format with each team guaranteed three matches. The University of Florida Gators are the defending National Team Indoors champion.

SCHEDULE OF PLAY —First round action begins on Friday at 10 a.m. with quarterfinals taking place on Saturday. The semifinals will be held on Sunday and the championship match is slated for Monday, Feb. 12
