ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech softball team (22-6) will open up Atlantic Coast Conference action this Saturday-Sunday, March 18-19, against the University of Maryland (11-10). The three-game ACC series will begin with two games Saturday at Glenn Field with first pitch slated for Noon.
The Yellow Jackets have only lost twice in their last 18 games and are leading the ACC in every offensive category with the exception of triples. Tech boasts a .336 team batting average, 412 on base percentage and .512 slugging percentage. The Jackets have 24 home runs on the season, one shy of their season total in 2005.
Freshman sensation Whitney Haller leads the ACC in several offensive categories. Haller, a native of Marietta, Ga., leads the ACC in hits (39), home runs (10), runs scored (28), runs batted in (34), slugging percentage (.854) and ranks third in batting average (.438).
In the circle, sophomore Whitney Humphreys is tied for the ACC top spot with 12 wins. Humphreys, a native of Sandy Spring, W. Va., is eighth in the league with a team-leading 1.86 earned run average.
Sophomore Jenny Belak leads the Terrapins with a .362 batting average. Belak has three doubles, two triples and one RBI. In the circle, the Terps’ Crystal Crews leads the team with a 1.32 ERA.
