Jackets Maul Bears, 6-0

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech softball (11-8) blanked Brown (2-7) from the circle for a 6-0 victory, clinching a second consecutive shutout to complete a sweep of the I-75 Tournament field on Sunday at Mewborn Field.

Mirroring each of their most recent outings, senior right handers Chandler Dennis and Blake Neleman put in a joint effort to keep the opposition quiet from the circle. Dennis (6-3) also received credit for her second straight win as she moved up to six on the season, tossing 5.1 scoreless innings while picking up four strikeouts. Neleman followed to earn her second save in succession as she closed out the final 1.2 innings hitless with three punchouts.

The six runs were produced through three hits as junior right fielder Sara Beth Allen and sophomore second baseman Grace Connelly each went yard while junior shortstop Jin Sileo swatted a two-RBI single to round out the final tally.

Allen jumpstarted the Jackets in the bottom of the first, belting a solo shot over the left-field foul pole. Four scoreless innings later, Tech added what proved to be five security runs. With a pair on in the bottom of the sixth, Sileo opened the half inning’s scoring by dropping in a two-RBI single. Connelly came behind Sileo shortly after with a three-RBI dinger, giving Georgia Tech a 6-0 lead that it would hang onto for the remainder of the contest.
