THE FLATS — Georgia Tech track and field kicks off its indoor season at the Orange and Purple Classic on Saturday hosted by Clemson. The field events will kick off at 10 a.m. and the track events are slated to start at 12 p.m. with the women’s 5000 meter run.
Saturday will be the first of three trips to Clemson during the indoor season. The Jackets will also head to Clemson later this month for the Bob Pollock Invitational from Jan. 27-28 and for the Tiger Tuneup on Feb. 18.
Returning for the Yellow Jackets on the women’s side is senior Kenya Collins who will compete in the 60 meter hurdles. Collins had eight top-five finishes in the event in the 2015-16 indoor season. She finished first at the BSC Indoor Icebreaker in December with a time of 8.53.
For the men, senior Zachary Gunnz returns, racing in the 60 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. Gunnz finished third in the 60 meter dash at the BSC Icebreaker in December.
Among the teams competing are in-state rival Georgia, host Clemson, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida.
